As of September 1, people can collect receipts from stores and participate in the National Receipt Lottery. The ruling SMER-SD has introduced the lottery to encourage people to ask for receipts at restaurants or the hairdresser’s and thus reduce space for tax evasion. Slovakia loses an estimated €150 million in uncollected VAT every year.
