Around twenty Slovak police officers may be despatched to Slovenia to help it to protect its border with Croatia amid the current migration crisis, Police Corps vice-president Ľubomír Ábel announced on Tuesday. The deployment is being debated at a Slovak Security Council session with the presence of Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday, October 28. "I estimate the figure to be some 20 police officers", said Ábel, adding that Slovak police are currently debating the details with the Slovenian authorities. A total of 400 officers should arrive in Slovenia as part of the assistance provided by 11 European Union countries as well the Balkans, as agreed to at a summit of these countries on Sunday. Head of Slovak Foreigners Police Ľudovít Bíró announced that officers from his department will be joined in Slovenia by other police officers provided by individual regional police directorates. Slovak officers should be deployed for a month to the country. A similar Slovak unit, composed of 50 police officers, has been helping Hungary to patrol its border with Serbia as of last week. They've already detained at least dozen illegal migrants, said Ábel. An ordinary border patrol unit is composed of two Hungarian police officers, one Hungarian soldier and one Slovak police officer, according to Ábel.
