EduMin: Teachers' demand for €140 wage increase is unrealistic

Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Juraj Draxler considers the demand by Slovak Teachers Chamber for an increase of teachers' salaries by €140 as unrealistic, he announced on RTVS's discussion show on Sunday. Slovak Teachers Chamber demands salary increases for all teaching and professional employees in regional education facilities of €140 in 2016 and €90 at the beginning of 2017. "You can't come here saying that the prepared state budget has to be changed by about a half a billion [euros]. That's impossible to do on such short notice," said Draxler. This argument was however challenged by Bratislava region Teachers chamber director Branislav Kočan. "It's not true that we came up with this too late, teachers have been demanding their rights and specific salaries for a long time," said Kočan. According to the minister Draxler, teachers will most likely get year-end bonuses of €100.
