Education Minister survives vote of no-confidence

Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports Juraj Draxler, who faced a no-confidence vote initiated by the opposition on Wednesday, is staying in his post. Only 35 out of 110 MPs present voted for Draxler's ouster at the Parliament's extraordinary session on Wednesday. Opposition MPs wanted to dismiss Draxler over a case involving alleged fraud at the Methodology-Pedagogy Centre, as well as the suspicious activity of an education centre being vacated under speculation that a former developer from the financial company Penta would buy the land. Speaking in the House on Wednesday, Draxler defended himself, saying that money which was mistakenly deposited into a fake account in the alleged fraud case was never lost. "It was a rather primitive fraud. The economics department head received an email containing a new bank account, and MPC immediately made the payment. They then took action straightaway, and the money was seized on the bank accounts back in August. It's therefore utter nonsense to say that it has now been - all of a sudden - found", said Draxler, referring to claims made by the Opposition.
