Finland should inspire Slovakia in education, says President

Finland is quite similar to Slovakia in terms of population and could serve as a great source of inspiration for Slovaks in education and in respect for teachers, Slovak President Andrej Kiska said after his meeting with Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö in Helsinki on Wednesday. "Unfortunately, the need for change in the Slovak education system doesn't resonate enough among our citizens", said the President. "However, it is the education system that will determine our future". The two presidents discussed mainly innovations, education and research. They concurred that countries such as Finland and Slovakia first and foremost need to be attractive for foreign investors, export-oriented and capable of quick innovations. Also broached was the migrant crisis. Kiska and Niinistö agreed that the best way to tackle the crisis would be where the problems originate. But since half a million of migrants are already in motion in Europe, the situation calls for action. "We consider this to be a challenge for both countries as well as the EU as a whole", said Niinistö. With both countries avid hockey fans, both presidents were eager to discuss the upcoming World Championships. "Both sides now wait in suspense to see who will win the next World Championship. We hope it's going to be us", said Niinistö with a smile. Slovak President Kiska begged to differ, however. "We're confident that the next World Champion is going to be Slovakia", Kiska replied with a smile, too.
