New stretch of D1 highway opened near Levoča

The first of the Jánovce - Jablonov sections on the D1 highway has been opened to motorists since Tuesday, October 20. Drivers travelling from Poprad can now continue along the highway from Spišský Štvrtok to Levoča. The highway stretch is, according to CEO of the National Highway Company Milan Gajdoš, the first of the three sections that are planned between Ružomberok and Prešov. The works were completed by the construction company Váhostav SK along with the firm Bögl & Krýsl. Part of the open section also includes the Kurimany bridge section which claimed four lives when it collapsed during construction in 2012. The next section of the motorway to be opened will be Jánovce - Jablonov II; a 9.5 kilometre stretch which is expected to be connected in November.
