The United States Secretary of State, John Kerry has commended Slovakia on being a strong and reliable partner, in a message sent ahead of Slovakia’s Constitution Day on September 1st.
On behalf of President Obama and the American people he sent "heartfelt congratulations to the Slovak nation which remembers on September 1st the 21st anniversary of the Constitution”. Mr Kerry said it was a remarkable day for Slovakia and the U.S., as the two countries commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
He went on to say, "We have shared a long history of a friendly and productive relationship and our mutual commitment to freedom, respect for human rights and Euro-Atlantic integration which will continue in the future. Cultural ties between our nations are particularly close and trade between our countries has increased in the years 2010-12 by almost 60 percent.”
He also expressed gratitude for the work Slovakia is doing with emerging democracies around the world, particularly those that are on the road to Euro-Atlantic integration".
