Slovakia hasn't yet joined the French initiative designed to restrict the UN Security Council permanent members' right of veto in cases of mass atrocities and genocide. "The Slovak Republic is in favour of comprehensive reform of UN functioning agreed upon by consensus. From this perspective, we are actively observing the French initiative," the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry spokesperson Peter Stano informed TASR on Tuesday. The initiative has already been signed by more than 70 states from Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. France, as one of five permanent members of UNSC, has already given assurances that it won't use the veto in cases when mass atrocities or genocide is perpetrated. The initiative is designed to ensure to delimit the Security Council's ability to act in such cases.
