As part of Bojnice Zoo's celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the facility's head Milan Šovčík and Environment Minister Peter Žiga opened a new environmental education centre on Friday that forms part of the zoo's entrance zone. The celebrations also involved the launch of a book on the zoo, which is Slovakia's oldest. "The building housing the new environmental education centre is mainly designed to educate the public. It is home to a large library, which is primarily intended for the zoo's employees as well as students," said zoo spokesperson Simona Kubičková. Meanwhile, Šovčík rejoiced at the zoo's having been here for 60 years, but said that its viability ensures that it can survive another 160 years. The zoo has welcomed over 22 million visitors over the 60 years of its existence in the spa town of Bojnice.
