Number of asylum seekers in Gabčíkovo increasing

The temporary accommodation facility for refugees at Gabčíkovo, south west Slovakia, is currently home to 260 people from Syria who are seeking asylum in Austria. According to the Interior Ministry spokesman Petar Lazarov the people are allowed free movement in the facility, and "they go out based on permits and spend their time at their own discretion".
"The asylum seekers from Austria are being looked after by Austrian officials. Hence, we're unable to comment on their activities", said Lazarov. The first group of Syrian nationals who are applying for asylum in Austria arrived in Gabčíkovo on September 17. Another six people were brought in later in the day. Eleven days later, there were 227 Syrians in the facility. According to available reports, up to 500 asylum seekers may be transferred to Gabčíkovo.
