Czech President calls Slovak Prime Minister to support him suing EU

Czech President Miloš Zeman phoned Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Friday in order to congratulate him on his courage and bravery with respect to his rejecting stance on refugee quotas. "The president of the Czech Republic expressed his personal support to the Slovak prime minister", Zeman's spokesperson Jiří Ovčáček explained on the official Prague Castle website. After the vote of EU interior ministers to redistribute 120,000 refugees from Italy and Greece to other countries of the EU on Tuesday (September 22), Fico stated that Slovakia will defend itself against such a decision at the Court of the Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. Fico insists that we need to be diligent in the fight against the mandatory quotas. "We need to take every possible route that the legislation allows us", said Fico. Legal steps on the same matter were also considered by the Czech Republic. Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, however, declared before the EU summit on Wednesday (September 23) that his country won't legally attack this decision as it doesn't want to escalate the tension. Apart from Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, also Romania voted against the quotas on Tuesday. Finland abstained.
