Last year banks in Slovakia paid to the Deposit Protection Fund contributions of €25.45 million. In an annual comparison, this is a decrease of 47.4 percent. For 2012, the annual contribution was set at 0.2 percent of deposits subject to protection by law. Last year, however, legislative changes were adopted in the law on the protection of deposits and since the bank levy was increased, banks were temporarily freed from the duty to contribute to the Deposit Protection Fund. The volume of deposits in the banking sector in Slovakia last year reached €45.94 billion.
