Slovakia expects more EU involvement on VW emission scandal

Slovakia expects the European Union to assume a joint position on the so-called emission scandal of the Volkswagen vehicle producer. "It would be illogical for us to act in a manner incongruent with the rest of Europe. So we'll wait for the next steps of the European Commission and see what the next avenue of approach will be", said Transport Minister Jan Počiatek. He couldn't yet give details on the number of VW-produced cars on Slovak roads, the engine systems of which are equipped with software masking the real emission levels. The emission scandal emerged at the end of last week, when the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) announced that automobiles with diesel VW engines used software that enabled them to falsify the real values of toxic emissions. According to the latest information, 11 million cars are affected worldwide.
