The Slovak State Agency for Drug Control has withdrawn the drug Topotecan medac from the market for fear of microbial contamination. It is used only in hospitals for the treatment of ovarian and small cell lung cancer that has come back after chemotherapy, and advanced cervical cancer if surgery or radiotherapy is not possible. Patients have access to other drugs with the same active substance to replace the one withdrawn.
