Some 70,000 to 85,000 people joined the National March for Life in Bratislava on Sunday, according to an estimate by the event's organisers who spoke at a press conference after its conclusion. "We've managed to replicate the miracle from Košice", said organiser Marek Michalčík. The first-ever pro-life march in Slovakia took place in Košice two years ago with attendance of around 80,000 people. The aim of the event is to promote a pro-life, anti-abortion view and to reaffirm that a marriage should be solely between a man and a woman. "I want to express joy and gratitude at the fact that this event showed that the community of those who profess life and the joy of life is very large", said Bratislava auxiliary bishop Jozef Haľko. The main organiser of the event is the Slovak Bishops Conference, which is currently pushing to amend legislation to restrict access to abortions in the case of unwanted pregnancies. "Our aim is equality in the protection of life of all people with no distinction, including unborn babies - both in legislation and in real conditions", said Michalčík.
