Economic migrants must see going to Europe as unappealing, say MPs

Economic migrants should get the message that it's not worth migrating to Europe, MPs Róbert Madej (Smer-SD), Juraj Droba (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) and Janka Šípošová (OLaNO) concurred on RTVS's politics discussion programme 'Sobotné dialógy' (Saturday Dialogues). At the same time, they all rejected mandatory quotas to resettle migrants, and urged protection of the EU's borders and the fight against people smugglers. "The quotas are utter nonsense. Advanced, that is mostly western European countries, need to realise that it's there where migrants want to go. And if they seek to stop the migration inflow, they need to stop being an attractive proposition for the migrants", said Madej. "It (the quotas) is a very unfortunate solution. It's beyond reason to force migrants who seek to go on to another country to stay in Slovakia", she added, and questioned why countries such as Saudia Arabia haven't as yet admitted any of the migrants. Droba weighed in by saying that EU-funded refugee camps need to be set up in Turkey or Africa and measures need to be put in place against smugglers. He also predicted conflicts between some EU member countries over the migrant crisis. However, Šípošová took exception to some statements made by Madej, who said that some migrants are violating rules even before actually making it into the EU, and continued: "I see people who are demolishing fences and throwing rocks at police officers. How will they behave once they cross the border? We don't know the people; we don't know whether or not they represent a security or health risk".
