24 asylum seekers placed in Slovakia

A group of the first 24 asylum seekers from Austria, mainly men from Syria, came to Gabčíkovo, south west Slovakia, on Thursday. They will be placed temporarily in the local Slovak Technical University accommodation facility. So far, no incidents were reported despite the results of the local referendum. Held August 2, it showed that 97 percent of those who voted expressed their disapproval with plans to set up a temporary refugee camp. The daily regime of the asylum seekers placed in the South Slovak village of Gabčíkovo is organised by the Austrian authorities. The asylum seekers do not want to stay in Slovakia but instead move on to Austria.
