The European Commission has never proposed any cuts in European funds allocations for countries that oppose mandatory migrant resettlement quotas, Andrej Králik of the European Commission Representation to Slovakia claimed on Tuesday. "This is not a motion of the European Commission. Neither the European Commission, nor its President [Jean-Claude] Juncker are considering such a course of action", said Králik. Rather than sanctions, the European Commission prefers to "seek positive incentives for accepting refugees", he added. "European rights to draw European funds and the partnership agreements with member states don't allow such cuts in EU funds for such a reason. In order for that to happen a revision of the entire multi-year financial framework for 2014-20 would be required, and that's really not an avenue of approach even entertained by the European Commission", said Králik.
No funding cuts for rejecting migrant quotas, says European Commission
