President Andrej Kiska advocated striking a common agreement at the European level on the issue of migrants. He called it "unfortunate" if proposals on quotas were to overshadow initiatives to address the problem. "I would also consider this to be unfortunate both for the whole of Europe and central Europe. Europe needs an agreement. Neither Europe as a whole nor central Europe needs the revival of a division into old and new member states", said Kiska. He also called it unsustainable for Slovakia not to be ready and able to have an understanding for its partners that are calling for solidarity across the EU. He also expressed his wish that threats concerning putting an end to solidarity in EU funds should be dropped. As well, he urged an end to trading accusations as to who caused the migration crisis and who contributed to the disintegration in the home countries of the refugees.
