Salvation Army to officially commence operations in Slovakia

The Salvation Army, an international Christian charitable organisation, has officially launched its operation in Slovakia as of Saturday September 5, providing social and spiritual services. The organisation is currently present in 126 countries worldwide, where it runs charity shops, shelters for the homeless, and provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid to the needy. The Salvation Army operated in Slovakia as early as 1921, but was abolished by Communists in 1950. A resumption in activities in Slovakia (then still part of Czechoslovakia) was in the works in 1990, but the efforts were marred by the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993. Two Salvation Army volunteers laid the foundation stone of its current work in Slovakia in 2013.
