The immigration problem in the EU shouldn't be primarily tackled by distributing asylum seekers among individual EU countries, but by preventing others from coming to Europe, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák and his Slovenian opposite number Karl Erjavec agreed at a meeting in Bled, Slovenia on Tuesday. As was noted by Lajčák at the meeting, no decisive steps against people smugglers have been taken since the EU summit in July. "Refugees are still dying in desperate attempts to get to the EU. Why don't we see a more intense cooperation of security and intelligence forces in eliminating smugglers networks? How is it possible that the EU's outer borders are still leaky?" asked Lajčák. The two officials concurred that the immigration quotas - although partially addressing the problem - aren't a proper response to the real challenge represented by the continuous influx of immigrants to the EU.
Quotas not suitable response to migration issue, says Foreign Minister
