The President of Slovakia’s Constitutional Court Ivetta Macejkova reacted to recent critical statements of the President of the Supreme Court Štefan Harabin regarding two rulings of her court. ”Statements by the President of the Supreme Court addressed to judges of the Constitutional Court in recent days and weeks have deviated from reasonable and responsible expressions of someone who carries such a significant position as the post of a judge and Supreme Court President.
I do not reject criticism of the decision-making activities of the Constitutional Court as long as it is substantive and constructive, because I find this kind of criticism natural and necessary. However, in order to protect the authority and impartiality of the judiciary, arguments and means of expression of the Supreme Court President in respect of judges of the Constitutional Court and the Constitutional Court as an institution should correspond to that,” Macejkova criticizes Harabin’s statements.
