Land purchases for new car plant attract prosecutor's probe
The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Nitra has ordered the District Prosecutor's Office in the same town to look into the circumstances surrounding purchases of land in Nitra region where the new Jaguar Land Rover plant is projected to be built, TASR learnt from Regional Prosecutor's Office spokesman Jaroslav Macek on Friday. The Regional Prosecutor's Office has also instructed the lower-ranking office to examine whether Nitra District Office's land registry department acted in keeping with the law when approving the transfers of ownership interests for the respective land plots. Sieť party chairman Radoslav Procházka pointed out last Wednesday that speculators from an apparently letterbox company called Poľnohospodárska pôda ('Agricultural Land') have been buying up the plots on which Jaguar Land Rover is planning to build a factory in Nitra from some 70, mostly elderly people, paying woefully low prices in the process.
