Central and Eastern Europe enjoying positive economic situation

The improvement of world economies and gradual recovery of the markets has also been having a positive influence on the economies in Central and Eastern Europe, with 2014 being relatively favourable for the region. The unemployment rate dropped modestly, average wages grew and inflation was low. Average GDP growth in the region reached 2.4 percent, which is almost twice as much as in 2013. The results were also reflected in the latest CEE Top 500 chart compiled by the company Coface, which features 500 companies with the highest turnover in the region. The turnover of all companies in the chart accounted for €572 billion. Slovakia, with 39 companies on the list, reported turnover of 46 billion. "The driver of the Slovak economy was mainly domestic demand last year. Consumption of households increased 2.2 percent; we also see positive growth with fixed investments of companies. Coface forecasts a positive development for this year as well", said Juraj Janči, country manager of Coface Slovakia.
