A total of 1.9 million people chose Slovakia as the location of their holiday in the first half of 2015. This is an annual rise of close to 10 percent, claims the Slovak Tourism Board, with the figure breaking a record that had been in place since 2013. Most of these holidaymakers were Slovaks and a little over 700 000 of them were from abroad. An interesting rise of 42 percent was spotted in the number of British tourists visiting Slovakia. However the biggest jump in the number of tourists stands with Chinese tourists, whose number soared by a whopping 115 percent. The rise in tourist numbers also translated into higher revenues from tourism over the first half of 2015 - by an extra €27 million to bring the total to €924 million.
