Rare young black stork rescued in Tatras doing well

The young black stork rescued near the town of Svit (Prešov region) in early July is doing well and, after undergoing a recovery programme, has been placed into the nest of another pair of black storks with the couple ending up adopting the youth. The bird was found after it left its original nest somewhat prematurely, slightly injuring one of its wings in the process. In the second half of August, larger flocks of storks are usually seen in Slovakia, as they prepare to set off on long migrations to winter in warmer climes. Conservationists hope that the young stork will recover from its injuries and will handle its first long flight well.
