Many Slovaks continue to see moving for work as something unacceptable, and when they do relocate to another city or town to pursue a career, they're usually only motivated by a significantly higher salary. This follows from a survey conducted by the agency STEM/MARK. When Slovaks do move for work, ideally they do so within a region, as the longer the distance from their home, the lower the appeal of a new job. Two out of three Slovaks wouldn't leave Europe for work for any amount of money. "A higher salary per se isn't a major incentive prompting people to move. Almost one-fifth of people refuse to move for work even within a region, even if the distance may amount to only several dozen kilometres. Naturally, the inclination to relocate is subject to an influence of a higher salary", said HomeCredit analyst Michal Kozub. When it comes to moving abroad, but still within Europe, 44 percent of those asked would only take the plunge if their salary tripled. Strong family ties and friendships in particular deter Slovaks from moving for work, as this is what stops some 50 percent of people from moving.
