Water running out in Záhorie, residents asked to curb usage

Water reserves are running out in the Záhorie area in south western Slovakia. This is due to high domestic water usage, Bratislava Water Company has announced. People are watering their gardens and filling swimming pools. The company called on its customers in Záhorie to save water, using it only for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene. The alert concerns 23 towns and villages in 4 districts. Bratislava Water Company stated that the current status of ground water in these regions is sufficient for the residents' consumption, but if the drought and increased water usage continues, it will regulate the supply. It has also asked respective municipalities to ban the use of water from the public water network for the watering of lawns, filling pools or washing cars without delay.
