Claims of illegitimate talc extraction in Gemerská Poloma rejected

The dispute concerning the licence to excavate talc in Gemerská Poloma in eastern Slovakia is gaining extra momentum again. The company EuroGas is now saying that the licence issued in April 2005 was in breach of the law. The Economy Ministry confirmed that it has received a complaint, but denied that mining authorities would have failed to act in accordance with the law. The talc deposit in Gemerská Poloma was discovered accidentally during a search for tin in 1985. The talc from the deposit has high levels of purity, with experts viewing it as one of the most important in the world, with deposits amounting to around 85 million tonnes at least.
