The month of August is set to deliver the most pronounced heat-waves in 2015 and even break the Slovak extreme temperature record of 2012, when the highest nine-day average air temperature was recorded in Želiezovce (Nitra region): 28.9 degrees Celsius, informs the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office on its website. The most intense heat wave yet this year was recorded between July 17-25, however a string of extreme temperatures and tropical nights above 20 degrees Celsius have been plaguing Slovakia again since August 2. The current heat wave is forecast to continue until at least August 14. "It's quite likely that the record of the longest string of days with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, seen in 2012, will thus be surpassed", states the institute. In 2012, nine such days were recorded between June 30 to July 8 in Hurbanovo.
