Slovakia to remain part of UN missions

At the upcoming 70th session of the UN general assembly in New York, Slovakia's focus will be the strengthening of prevention and improving readiness of the UN and the international community to take action in situations of inhuman and violent treatment of people. This document on Slovakia's stance is now being prepared for the session which is to take place on September 15. Leading the Slovak delegation will be Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák. "Slovakia will maintain a proportional participation on UN missions including the UN mission in Cyprus, the Observatory mission on the borders between Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Jordan, Egypt and the UN police mission in Haiti" reads the document. Slovakia will furthermore continue to develop the concept of individual security and the concept of civilian protection from physical violence. Given the changing face of international terrorism and due to violent extremism represented by terrorist organisations such as Daesh, al-Šabáb or Boko Haram, Slovakia supports a re-evaluation of the UN Global Strategy concerning terrorism.
