July extremely hot across Slovakia

July turned out to be an exceptionally hot month, with the average monthly temperature reaching an extreme value of above 24 degrees Celsius at nearly one third of the 55 weather stations across Slovakia that provide daily readings. This was reported to TASR by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) on Tuesday. "The largest number of such stations were to be found in the western areas of the Nitra region", reads an analysis by SHMU's Pavel Faško and Oliver Bochníček. The average temperature in July had topped 24 degrees Celsius only twice before - in 1994 and 2006. The monthly average in Hurbanovo (Nitra region) was measured at 24.2 degrees Celsius in July, which was the highest for any July since 1871.
