Slovak Police join EU-Wide Blitz on Speeders

The international organization TISPOL, which brings together traffic police throughout Europe, has organised a blitz to take place across Europe which targets speeding motorists. “For the first six months of this year we’ve reprimanded 150,000 drivers with heavy right feet, informed the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, Denisa Baloghová. She added however that police will not turn a blind eye to other offenses, paying particular attention to driving while under the influence of alcohol and the roadworthy condition of vehicles.

“The aim of these actions is to reduce accidents and protect as many lives as possible,” said the police spokesperson. According to police, one of the leading causes of accidents in the first half of 2013 have been related to speeding, with dangerous driving coming in first place. The first half of this year saw 1174 traffic accidents occur.
