No more sweets at schools
The Health Ministry wants to fight childhood obesity by doing away with sweets, sweetened drinks, langos fried bread, hamburgers or chips in buffets and vending machines, which are located in facilities for children and youth. It argues that these foods are not suitable for young people in terms of prevention of obesity and related chronic diseases. It names foods that cannot be sold in buffets and vending machines in a draft regulation, among the requirements towards facilities for children and youth that is currently in the interdepartmental review process. The changes should come into effect as of October 1 this year, reads the Sme daily.
