Slovakia to fund statue of Milan Rastislav Štefánik in France

The Slovak Interior Ministry has agreed to set aside €13,200 for the reconstruction of the statue of Milan Rastislav Štefánik located in Paulhan, France. A plaque will also be instated to celebrate the life of this Slovak legend. The works stem from an agreement signed between the southern French town and the Slovak ministry, with the town being able to draw the funds until December 31, 2015. Standing at 248 centimetres high, the statue is a slightly smaller version (one third the size) of the statue installed on a column in front of the Slovak National Theatre in downtown Bratislava. Štefánik became a general in the French army, a politician and diplomat, and was one of the founders of Czechoslovakia. The French town of Paulhan is a twin town of Košariská, Štefánik's birthplace.
