Police investigating tragic toddler car death

The police have launched an investigation into the case of two-year-old Kristina, who died in a parked car in scorching heat in Nitra on Wednesday, said Nitra regional police spokesperson Bozena Bruchterova. The investigation concerns the crime of abandoning a child, which if resulting in the death of the infant can result in 7-12 years of imprisonment. The child was found dead in a black car that was parked on Janko Kral Street in Nitra at around 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, a time when temperatures outside were reaching 36 degrees Celsius in the shade. The police haven't said how long the girl was left in the car. She was allegedly abandoned by her 57-year-old father. "According to the coroner, the probable cause of death was heatstroke. The body of the little girl was taken to a hospital, where an autopsy is being carried out," said Bruchterova.
