Foreign Ministry State Secretary visits UNESCO in Paris
Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Igor Slobodník paid a visit to Paris last week to meet with UNESCO general director Irina Bokova, assistant director-general for culture Alfredo Perez de Arminan and UNESCO World Heritage Centre director Kishore Rao. The talks were mainly around the fight against cultural extermination - the destruction of cultural heritage. In this context, the state secretary conveyed the full support of Slovakia for the UNITE4HERITAGE global campaign and emphasised that it's the duty of us all to lend a hand to prevent the illegal trade in cultural artefacts. The Slovak side also inquired about UNESCO activities vis-a-vis tackling problems in Crimea. At the end of the meeting, Irina Bokova accepted the invitation to make an official visit to Slovakia in autumn 2016.
