The Slovak Government should be more open when it comes to the issue of migrants, Opposition Most-Hid MP Arpad Ersek said on Thursday. This was in response to the Government's plan to revive a disused facility in the town of Gabčíkovo into a holding camp for migrants coming to Slovakia from Austria as part of an agreement. The MP also believes the public mood to migrants has worsened following Prime Minister Robert Fico's statement that "migrants could represent a certain security risk, and we can't allow them to endanger holidaymakers at the [nearby] Zlaté Piesky lake in Bratislava". The ethnic-Hungarian MP believes that Fico's statement has caused "baseless concerns and fear among people in Gabčíkovo", with locals signing petitions against having hundreds of migrants stationed in the area.
