Slovaks are becoming more interested in moving out of the central areas of towns and cities to live on the edges of urban areas instead, according to a report in the Pravda daily on Thursday. The daily noted that people still want to take advantage of urban amenities while living in quieter places, which is why they are attracted to relatively new suburbs such as Záhorské sady on the edge of Bratislava. Mário Glos from real estate agency MGM Investments notes that while interest has been increasing in life on the edges of towns, it has fallen noticeably when it comes to older houses in more rural areas. Sociologist Stanislav Buchta said that the people who tend to move out to the edge of towns are usually solvent types who still basically desire an urban life and don't show much interest in getting involved in the local community to which they move into, although they do begin demanding facilities such as nursery schools, shops and transport links. The trend in question has mainly been noted in areas that are relatively prosperous. In other places such as in northern Slovakia it is still the labour market that mainly dictates where people live.
