Slovak president Andrej Kiska on Wednesday, July 15, signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which was approved by the Slovak parliament on June 26. The Convention prohibits the use of cluster munitions, which cause serious injury, as it is a form of air-dropped or ground-launched explosive weapon that releases or ejects smaller sub munitions. By signing the Convention, Slovakia takes over not only the legal, but also the human and moral obligation of alleviating the tragic and inhuman consequences of wars and armed conflicts, especially on innocent civilians. The Convention was originally adopted on May 30, 2008 in Dublin, Ireland and entered into force on August 1, 2010, in Slovakia it should come into force on January 1, 2016.
