Slovak military and police to exercise massive influx of refugees

The Defence Ministry announced on Wednesday that the Slovak military and police will hold a joint exercise involving a massive influx of refugees as part of its 'New Horizon 2015' drills at the Kolíňanský Vrch training facility and barracks in Nitra in late July. "The current security situation isn't ideal, and it requires our increased attention. That's why we've decided to initiate an exercise that will check the readiness and coordination of security forces to react to a wave of refugees from Africa and the Middle East," said Defence Minister Martin Glváč. The exercise will involve around 170-200 soldiers and 30 pieces of military equipment. The Interior Ministry will provide around 100 staff and another 20 pieces of equipment. The security forces will set up a mock refugee camp at the barracks in Nitra. This will include the training of making records of refugees, providing emergency medical assistance and securing order, as well as patrolling the border and operations against human smuggling.
