A member of the Ukrainian taxation police managed to prevent the smuggling of several kilograms of amber into Slovakia. This was reported in Ukrainian regional media last week. The news site ua-reporter.com reported that members of the Ukraine taxation police were stopping vehicles to perform searches at the Slovak-Ukraine border crossing between Uzhgorod and Vyšné Nemecké. One truck driven by a Ukraine national was stopped by police and upon inspecting the cab 12 sealed plastic bags were uncovered, prepared to be smuggled across the border. In the bags opaque, transparent and semi-transparent stones were uncovered which turned out to be amber. The consignment had the weight of about 80 kilograms and could have fetched around €215,000 on the black market.
