New signs for Slovak quality products

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has come up with additional labelling for local produce that is to guarantee their quality. This time it will be used only for single ingredient fresh foods, namely pork, beef, poultry, mutton, goat meat, fish, eggs, honey, fruit, vegetables and potatoes. As Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek informed the new label was created in cooperation with food makers and primary producers. Consumers will recognize the new label Slovak food "quality and controlled" due to a golden ring, where one of the above mentioned foodstuffs will be located. Inspectors of the State Veterinary and Food Administration have carried out more than 13,000 checks of foodstuffs during the second quarter of this year and found deficiencies in more than 11 percent of the controls, reports the Hospodárske Noviny daily.
