Unmarried men now outnumber married men in Slovakia

Unmarried men outnumber their married counterparts, while the opposite is true for women, shows a report by the Slovak Statistics Office on demographic and social developments in 2014. A total of 48.3 percent of the male population was unmarried. The largest ratio was seen in those up to 25 years of age - over 90 percent. Married or divorced men prevail only in the 33+ age category, with the largest proportion of married men seen in the category of 64- to 75-year-olds. When it comes to women however, the married outnumber the unmarried - by 40.3 percent to 39 percent. There are more married than unmarried women after 29 years of age, with the largest share observed in women aged 45 to 57. Meanwhile, there were more widows (11.2 percent) than divorced women (9.2 percent) as of the end of 2014.
