Saviour of Czechoslovak children Sir Nicolas Winton dies
02. 07. 2015 15:36 | News
British hero Sir Nicholas Winton who saved 669 children from Czechoslovakia from the Holocaust died on July 1 at the age of 106. Shortly before WWII broke out, in 1938 Winton organised trains transporting Jewish children from Czechoslovakia to the UK and thus saved them from a sure death. He kept quiet about his heroic deed for more than half a century. Slovak filmmakers have made three films on the life of Sir Nicolas Winton and in 2001 Winton himself came to Bratislava to take part at the premier of the documentary movie about him called the Power of Good, and in 2003 the British Queen Elizabeth II honoured him with a knighthood.
