More than 10% of Slovakia support right-wing extremist forces

Almost 11 percent of Slovakia’s population are potential supporters of right-wing extremist forces. In a survey ranking support for extreme right wing forces in Europe, Slovakia ranked 6th among 27 European countries. Portugal, Croatia and Hungary were in 7th to 9th positions. Extremists have focused on social problems and the areas in which they consider the state to be weak or idle.

Very often this means illegal actions, assaults and intimidation of Roma citizens. The government has already taken steps to amend the Criminal code to provide stricter penalties for offenders and to add hate crimes against people based on gender or belonging to different cultural and social groups.
