V4 to adopt tough stance on migration quotas

The Visegrad Four (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) group will adopt a quite tough and no-nonsense approach to the issue of mandatory migrant quotas at the two-day European Council Summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Robert Fico said before the beginning of the Summit on Thursday. "I don't buy that it's a European way and show of solidarity to force someone to do something at any cost. I hope that the Visegrad Four will maintain its position," said Fico. He underlined that the voice of V4 resonates so strongly across EU that European Council President Donald Tusk asked for a separate meeting with the V4 before the Summit. The Slovak Prime Minister hopes that mandatory quotas will be struck off the agenda in the Summit's conclusion and any help for migrants will be provided strictly on a voluntary basis. "The notion of our Government that we're able to do more for migrants on a voluntary basis than on a mandatory basis still holds," he said.
