The National Day of Slovakia at the 2015 Expo Milano was officially started today by Slovak President Andrej Kiska, with 141 countries and a number of international organisations presenting at the event. President Kiska travelled to Milan to officially kick-start the day under the theme "Slovakia. World in the Pocket". The pavilion showcases Slovak culture, art, and food, with the primary purpose of the Expo being to raise awareness of global food-based issues, as well as promoting a global right to healthy, safe and sufficient food, environmental and economic sustainability of the food chain, and the preservation of taste and food as a part of culture. The lead-up to the event was tarnished however due students protesting against the expo in late April. Hundreds of Italian protestors, mostly students going under the name of NoExpo, believe the Expo only benefits the corporations collaborating with the event. The Expo opened on May 1st and will run until October 31. Among the notable international organisations participating in the event focusing on sustainability and the environment were Save the Children, Coca Cola, and McDonald's.
