General practitioner Peter Lipták from Bratislava, who became well known due to his media statements about accepting gifts and cash from patients, has seen criminal proceedings against him by the Special Prosecutor's Office (USP) dropped, USP Jana Tökölyová told TASR on Tuesday. Tökölyová says that the prosecutor identified with the decision of an investigator who halted an investigation concerning bribery on June 9, stating that there was no doubt that the offence of which Lipták was accused did not take place. The resolution came into force on June 16. Law enforcement bodies were investigating Lipták's statements for the media in connection with the possible accepting of bribes in return for health care. Not one of his patients has notified the authorities of ill practice and not one person was found to have given a bribe. After examining the procedural actions and materials, the investigation came to the conclusion that there are no specific facts that would represent the carrying out of the criminal offences for which criminal proceedings were under way. Other factors that could lead to the conclusion that a crime was committed and was committed by a particular person were not discovered.
