On Tuesday Slovakia's Parliament is to debate a resolution that will recommend the Government not to approve mandatory quotas for migrants. The Prime Minister's party Smer has a comfortable majority in Parliament and is expected to approve the resolution. Prime Minister Robert Fico has already expressed his opposition to the European Commission's proposal that member states should accept a certain number of migrants from those currently held in Italy and Greece. On Monday Parliamentary leaders from the Czech Republic and Slovakia stressed that the two countries have helped, are helping and will continue to help to address the migrant crisis on a voluntary basis. Slovak Parliamentary Chairman Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) said that "one euro spent at the source has more purpose than ten euro spent at home".
